The Lady Roadrunners began a three-game road trip Nov. 26 with a 67-61 loss to the 15th-ranked Western Nebraska Community College Lady Cougars from Scottsbluff, Neb.
“We didn’t play very well,” said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. “We had way too many turnovers by players who usually don’t commit turnovers. We had a great chance to win, but we just didn’t finish the game.”
SFCC (4-5) took a 20-19 lead in the first half courtesy of a layup from sophomore guard Mary Sims. However, Western Nebraska came back to take a 29-20 lead at halftime. The Lady Cougars increased their advantage to 41-34 with less than 16 minutes remaining in the game. SFCC turned up the defensive pressure to cut the deficit to one with less than 12 minutes to go.
“We went to a smaller lineup with one post player,” said Bucher. “We tried to speed up the game. We just didn’t have a lot of energy.”
Western Nebraska made the plays down the stretch to secure the victory. SFCC was scheduled to play in the College of Southern Idaho Classic Nov. 29-30.
