The Roadrunners closed out the Stone Laser Imaging Classic Nov. 16 with a 86-56 victory over the Highland Community College Scotties from Highland, Kan. SFCC (5-2) held Highland to 19 points in the first half.
“We did a good job boxing out and grabbing rebounds,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “Highland had a lot of one-and-done offensive possessions. That’s what we had been talking about all week in practice—doing a better job of defending and rebounding. The offense took care of itself this weekend; we made the right plays and made shots when they were open. It was fun to watch, and hopefully we’ll continue to grow as a team.”
Sophomore guard Kevin Punter led three Roadrunners in double figures with 29 points. Freshman guard Dondre Alexander contributed 16 points. Sophomore center Isaac Freeman registered a double double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Joseph Thomasson dished out a team-high nine assists. Punter and Thomasson were named to the Stone Laser Imaging All-Classic team for their efforts this weekend.
“They both played well,” said Thomas. “Kevin scored the ball well and even snagged eight rebounds for us. Joe didn’t score as much, but he’s definitely a part of our strategy to distribute the ball and get other guys involved.”
SFCC will return to action at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 20 at home when the Roadrunners take on Johnson County Community College.
