The Lady Roadrunners won all three of their scrimmages Oct. 20 at the Southwestern Illinois College Jamboree in Belleville, Ill. The format was two 20-minute running clock halves.
SFCC won its first scrimmage against John A. Logan College from Carterville, Ill., by 18 points.
“We got down 7-0 early in the game, but played well after the slow start,” said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. “Sannayyiah Johnson played well. Apiphany Woods played really well. Our guards also played extremely well in that game. Sydonia Daniels played well. It was a team effort.”
The Lady Roadrunners played Parkland College from Champaign, Ill., in the second game of the jamboree. SFCC used its defense to take a 23-12 advantage into halftime, and went on to secure a 64-25 victory.
Johnson led the Lady Roadrunners with 13 points and registered seven rebounds. Alecia Cooley contributed 12 points and nine rebounds. Woods added eight points, three rebounds and three steals.
“We did a nice job with our defensive pressure,” said Bucher. “We locked down in the second half on defense.”
In the final game, SFCC played Illinois Central College from East Peoria, Ill. The Lady Roadrunners led 22-15 at halftime and went on to pick up a 37-23 win.
“Our defensive pressure was really good,” said Bucher. “They out-rebounded us by a lot. We were able to get some steals and some easy transition baskets.”
