The Lady Roadrunners had their first chance to scrimmage against another team Oct. 6 at the Heartland Jamboree in Kansas City. The format for the scrimmages was a 44-minute running clock.
The Lady Roadrunners picked up a 54-34 victory in their first scrimmaged against Pratt Community College from Pratt, Kan.
“We really got after it defensively,” said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. “We played really well on both ends of the floor. It was a great start.”
Sophomore guard Sannayyiah Johnson led SFCC in scoring with 14 points and registered six steals. Sophomore forward Asia Mosley contributed nine points and three rebounds. Freshman center Alecia Cooley added seven points and two rebounds.
SFCC took on Coffeyville Community College from Coffeyville, Kan., in the second scrimmage of the day. The Lady Roadrunners got out to an 18-point lead, but then struggled with shooting. SFCC hung on to pick up a 37-32 win.
SFCC sophomore guard/forward Apiphany Woods led her team in scoring with eight points. She also contributed five rebounds and four steals. Mosley pitched in with six points and three rebounds. Cooley pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Lady Roadrunners dropped a 42-36 decision to Barton Community College from Great Bend, Kan., in their last scrimmage of the day. Woods contributed seven points and four rebounds and Johnson pulled down six rebounds. Mosley added six points and three rebounds.
“For a sophomore-laden team we didn’t execute as well as we should have,” said Bucher. “Now we have to start honing our skills and continuing to work on our offense and defense.”
