Roadrunners Defeat Penn Valley
Wednesday, February 13, 2013

The Roadrunners used a solid effort on both ends of the floor to defeat the Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley Scouts Feb. 9 in Kansas City. SFCC (19-6) jumped out to a 19-7 lead to begin the game and claimed a 78-55 victory.

“Our guys came out with effort and intensity and played really hard on the defensive end," said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. "We were able to create some turnovers. Our pressure bothered them, especially early in the game, and we made some good shots."

Sophomore guard Kenny Chery led three Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 24 points. Freshman guards Kevin Punter contributed 19 points and Ben Denbow added 12 points. Sophomore wing Jacob Williams pulled a team-high six rebounds. Freshman guard Joe Thomasson dished out a team-high five assists. Punter registered a team-high three steals.

SFCC will host Missouri State University-West Plains in a Region XVI game Feb. 13. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.

The SFCC Athletics Department will sponsor “Think Pink! Bleed Blue!” night, a cancer fundraiser. Sophomores on both basketball teams and the Spirit Squad also will be recognized.
