The Lady Roadrunners used a quick start on both ends of the floor Feb. 6 to avenge a loss from earlier in the season to the North Arkansas College Lady Pioneers from Harrison, Ark. SFCC (18-6) picked up a 91-70 bounce-back victory on its home court after a loss at Three Rivers on Saturday.
“Tonight we hit some shots,” said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. “That’s what we didn’t do at Three Rivers. We did a really good job of hitting shots early, because we knew they were going to go into that zone. It really put a lot of pressure on them. We also played well defensively in the first half.”
The Lady Roadrunners led 48-31 at halftime. However, the Lady Pioneers refused to go away, making a run to begin the second half to cut SFCC’s deficit to eight points. SFCC had an answer to the run.
“Sannayiah Johnson hit a big three-point shot that really got us going,” said Bucher. “That was good to see. When a team packs it in against you defensively, you have to be able to hit outside shots.”
Antoinette Taylor led the team in scoring with 21 points. She knocked down four of nine shots from beyond the three-point arc and tied for the team lead in steals with four. Johnson contributed 14 points. Mia Wesley added 13 points. She also registered four steals. Adella Randle-EL pitched in with 10 points. She also dished out a team-high eight assists.
The Lady Roadrunners will travel to Kansas City Feb. 9 to take on the Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley Lady Scouts. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
