The Lady Roadrunners lost to the Crowder College Lady Raiders 82-72 Jan. 23 in Neosho. SFCC (15-5, 2-2 in Region XVI) jumped out to a 16-11 lead courtesy of back-to-back three-point baskets from freshman guard/forward Julia Torres with 13 minutes remaining in the first half.
Crowder refused to go away on its home floor, taking a 41-37 lead into halftime. SFCC kept the game close throughout the second half. Crowder made the plays down the stretch to secure the victory.
“Crowder’s experience was a major factor in the game,” said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. “Most of their players are back from last year. They executed very well; we had our opportunities at the very end and didn’t execute.”
Freshman guard Adella Randle-EL led three Lady Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 17 points. She also dished out five assists and pulled down five rebounds. Freshman guard Antoinette Taylor contributed 15 points and Torres added 12 points and six rebounds. Torres and Taylor each recorded two steals.
The Lady Roadrunners return home Jan. 26 for a Region XVI and Midwest Community College Athletic Conference game with the 13th-ranked Mineral Area College Lady Cardinals. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
