The Lady Roadrunners dropped a 58-55 decision to Three Rivers Community College Jan. 8 to open Region XVI and Midwest Community College Athletic Conference play at the Fred E Davis Multipurpose Center.
SFCC (12-4, 0-1 in Region, 0-1 in MCCAC) jumped out to a lead in the first half. The Lady Roadrunners used their multiple defenses and up-tempo style to create the advantage.
“We did a good job of rebounding the ball and we played aggressively,” said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. “We just need to keep getting better.”
The Lady Raiders finished the first half on an 11-0 run to tie the game at 24. The second half was a back-and-forth battle. Three Rivers took the lead for good, courtesy of an offensive rebound and put back in the waning seconds. The Lady Roadrunners were forced to foul; Three Rivers made one of two free throws to secure the three-point margin of victory.
Sophomore guard Mia Wesley and freshman guard Apiphany Woods led the Lady Roadrunners in scoring with 12 points apiece. Freshman guard Antoinette Taylor added 11 points.
SFCC will travel to St. Louis Jan. 10 to take on the St. Louis Community College Archers in another Midwest Community College Athletic Conference game. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
