The Roadrunners took on the Independence Community College Pirates in Independence, Kan., Nov. 27. SFCC (8-3) shot 55 percent as a team from the field and used its hot shooting performance to defeat Independence 105-75.
“We got off to a good start,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “We were up 11-2 to begin the game. We made shots early in the game, built a good-sized lead and were able to sustain it.”
SFCC had five players in double-figure scoring led by freshman guard Ben Denbow with 21 points. Denbow knocked down six out of seven three-point shots in the contest. Freshman wing Dashawn Stitt contributed 18 points and sophomore wing Jacob Williams added 16 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman guard Joe Thomasson pitched in with 15 points, dished out a team-high six assists and led the team with three blocked shots. Freshman guard Kevin Punter registered 13 points and sophomore guard Kenny Chery led the team in steals with three.
The Roadrunners will travel to Quincy, Ill., Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 to participate in the John Wood Classic. SFCC will take on host John Wood Community College at 7 p.m. Friday and Lincoln College from Lincoln, Ill., at 1 p.m. Saturday.
