The Lady Roadrunners traveled to Little Rock, Ark., Nov. 27 to take on the Arkansas Baptist College Lady Buffs. SFCC (9-2) found itself behind by one point with 3.4 seconds remaining on the clock.
Freshman guard Adella Randle-EL inbounded the ball off of the back of her defender and stepped inbounds. Randle-EL made the shot and was fouled. She went to the free-throw line to complete the old-fashioned three-point play. She missed the free throw and Arkansas Baptist grabbed the rebound. A shot at the buzzer missed to give the Lady Roadrunners a 58-57 victory.
“That was a gutsy play by Adella because you have to play it off the defender right,” said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. “She was still pretty far underneath the backboard when she caught the ball, but she threw it up and got it in the basket.”
SFCC had three players in double-figure scoring led by sophomore guard Mia Wesley with 14 points. Freshman guard Antoinette Taylor contributed 12 points and freshman guard Sannayiah Johnson added 10 points. Freshman guard/forward Julia Torres pulled down a team-high five rebounds and Apiphany Woods dished out a team-high three assists. Taylor registered a team-leading three steals and Torres led the team in blocked shots with three.
SFCC will play Cloud County Community College in Concordia, Kan., Dec. 1. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
