The Lady Roadrunners jumped out to a 23-0 lead against the Lincoln Trail College Lady Statesmen from Robinson, Ill., Nov. 7 at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center. SFCC (3-0) rode the early momentum to a 91-58 victory.
“We wanted to get off to a good start early in the game,” said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. “We wanted to put a lot of pressure on their guards and make them handle the ball. We also wanted to deny the first pass on defense. It was a good defensive effort to begin the game.”
Four Lady Roadrunners scored in double figures. Freshman guard Sannayiah Johnson led the team in scoring with 15 points and also tied for the team lead with three steals in the game. Sophomore guard Mia Wesley and freshman forward Tiana Jones contributed 12 points apiece. Wesley pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds in the contest to finish her double double on the evening. Jones tied for the team lead with two blocked shots, along with sophomore forward/center Kaitlyn Mercer. Freshman forward Asia Mosley added 10 points and freshman guard Apiphany Woods dished out a team-leading four assists. Freshman guard/forward Julia Torres and Johnson tied for team-high honors in steals with three apiece.
The Lady Roadrunners will hit the road for the first time this season Nov. 10 when they travel to Independence, Kan., to take on the 19th-ranked Independence Community College Lady Pirates. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
