The Lady Roadrunners went to a smaller lineup to defeat the Kaskaskia College Blue Angels from Centralia, Ill., 63-57 in the final round of the McDonald’s Classic Nov. 3 in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
“I went with a smaller lineup for about the last six minutes of the game,” said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. “I thought we could get some steals and some easy transition baskets.”
SFCC (2-0) pushed the lead to nine late in the contest. The Blue Angels fought their way back into the game. However, the Lady Roadrunners made the plays late in the game to secure the victory.
“We had some key drives down the stretch for layups and we made our free throws,” said Bucher. “I give the Blue Angels credit, too; they are well coached and play hard. Their post players are aggressive and they handle the ball well.”
Sophomore guard Mia Wesley led SFCC in scoring with 13 points. Freshman guard/forward Julia Torres contributed 11 points and freshman forward Asia Mosley pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Freshman guard Apiphany Woods dished out a team-high five assists.
SFCC will return to action Nov. 7 when the Lady Roadrunners take on Lincoln Trail College at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
