The Lady Roadrunners emerged with a 74-58 victory Oct. 24 when they played in the annual Highway 65 Shoot-Out against the Missouri Valley College Lady Vikings in Marshall.
“It was probably some of the better defense we’ve played so far,” said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. “We pressured them out on the wings and got some steals. Our pressure defense is starting to work and we were able to get out in transition. It was a definite improvement over our last scrimmage. Every day we get better at the skills we need to make us successful.”
Sophomore guard Mia Wesley led three Lady Roadrunners in double-figure scoring with 13 points. Sophomore guard/forward Kaci Cason and freshman guard Apiphany Woods each contributed 12 points. Freshman guard/forward Julia Torres pulled down a team-high six rebounds, freshman forward Asia Mosley pulled down five rebounds and Cason registered a team-high four steals in the game.
The Lady Roadrunners will open their regular season Nov. 2 against Vincennes University as part of the McDonald’s Classic. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Fred E Davis Multipurpose Center.
