Roadrunners Fall in Region Semifinal
The fourth-seeded Roadrunners (15-15) lost 75-53 to the number-one seeded Moberly Area Community College Greyhounds March 9 in a Region XVI tournament semifinal matchup in Hillsboro.
Freshman guard Kenny Chery opened the scoring for SFCC, knocking out a three-point basket to put his team ahead 3-2 early in the contest. The Greyhounds answered with a quick 4-0 run.
The Greyhounds pushed their advantage to 15-5 with less than 15 minutes remaining in the first half. A steal and layup from SFCC sophomore guard Alfonzo Houston cut Moberly’s advantage to 22-15. Moberly answered with a basket to stop the 6-0 SFCC run. The Greyhounds led 33-22 at halftime.
A layup from sophomore SFCC guard Fred Wilson trimmed the Roadrunners’ deficit to nine at 39-30. Moberly took a 27-point lead at 75-48, the largest by either team in the contest. The Greyhounds made the plays to close out the victory.
Chery led SFCC in scoring with 15 points. Houston added 12 in his final game as a Roadrunner. Freshman forward Ayo Ojo pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and Chery dished out a team-high four assists. Sophomore forward Michael Bradley registered three blocked shots in his final game at SFCC. Wilson led the team in steals with three in his final contest as a Roadrunner.
