Roadrunners Fall at Indian Hills
SFCC (12-14) dropped a hard-fought 85-82 decision Feb. 22 to the eighth-ranked Indian Hills Community College Warriors in Ottumwa, Iowa.
“A lot of different players played well,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “We were behind by 13 points in the second half but we fought our way back into the game. We had a chance to tie it up with a three-point shot at the end, but just came up short.”
Sophomore guard Alfonzo Houston led SFCC with 28 points. Sophomore wing Antonin Galaya contributed 24 points, including eight of 16 from beyond the three-point arc. Freshman wing Lucas Kidane added 15 points in the game. Sophomore forward Ayo Ojo pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds. Freshman guard Kenny Chery dished out a team-high nine assists and led the team in steals with three.
“Even though we played without two of our starters, our guys did well and competed hard,” said Thomas. “They had chances to give up and they didn’t.”
SFCC returns home Feb. 25 to take on Mineral Area College for homecoming. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
“We’ll have to contain dribble penetration against Mineral Area,” said Thomas. “We’ll have to control Jerome Davis and Darion Hooker, limit them and make them take contested shots.”
