Roadrunners Fall at Moberly
SFCC (12-13, 2-5 in Region XVI) dropped a 105-93 decision to the Moberly Area Community College Greyhounds Feb. 18 in Moberly.
Freshman guard Kenny Chery opened the game with a personal 4-0 run. SFCC pushed the advantage to 15-11 courtesy of an offensive rebound and put back. Moberly took its first lead of the contest at 18-17. Sophomore wing Antonin Galaya responded with a three-point basket to put the Roadrunners back in front.
SFCC sophomore guard Fred Wilson tied the game at 30 with a three-point basket with less than five minutes remaining in the first half. Moberly knocked down a big three-point basket to take a 42-38 lead at halftime.
Moberly hit back-to-back three-point baskets to open the second half. The Greyhounds took a 21-point lead, the biggest by either team in the contest, at 66-45. SFCC rallied late in the contest but fell short as Moberly made the plays to secure the win.
“I thought offensively we did some good things,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “We shot the ball well, but we could never get stops on defense. When you score 93 points in a game, that should be enough to get a win, but we just didn’t play well defensively.”
Sophomore guard Alfonzo Houston led SFCC in scoring with 29 points. Galaya contributed 25 points. Chery added 20 points, dished out a team-high six assists and tied for the team lead in rebounds with four. Freshman forward Ayo Ojo, Galaya, and Houston also contributed four rebounds each and Galaya registered a team-high two steals.
