Lady Roadrunners Fall at North Arkansas
The Lady Roadrunners (14-7) suffered their third loss in a row Feb. 9 when they were defeated 95-83 by the North Arkansas College Lady Pioneers in Harrison, Ark.
Freshman guard Brittany Silas opened the scoring for SFCC with a three-point basket to tie the game at three. The Lady Roadrunners took a 14-13 lead with 15 minutes remaining in the first half.
SFCC went on a run to stretch the advantage to 36-26 courtesy of a layup from freshman center Chanel Gwynn-Williams off a pass from sophomore guard Ariel Easton with less than eight minutes left in the half. The lead grew to 44-30 with under four minutes remaining in the first half. SFCC took a 46-38 lead into halftime.
The Lady Pioneers cut SFCC’s lead to 56-50 with just under 17 minutes remaining in the game. The Lady Pioneers had another three-point shot, trimming the lead to 56-53.
North Arkansas took a 64-62 lead with another big three-point basket with under 11 minutes remaining, then made the plays down the stretch to secure the victory.
Easton led SFCC in scoring with 21 points. She also tied for the team lead in steals with two. Sophomore guard Alexas Brown contributed 16 points. Silas added 11 points in the contest. Freshman center Jamie Buehrig pulled down a team-high seven rebounds. Freshman guard Jermisha Watson was second on the team, pulling down six rebounds. She also registered two steals, tying freshman guard Voneisha Harris for the team lead. Freshman guard Ryneka Church dished out a team-high six assists.
SFCC will return to action Feb. 14 in a Region XVI contest against the Iowa Western Community College Reivers. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
