Roadrunners Fall at Three Rivers
The Roadrunners traveled to Poplar Bluff Feb. 4 to take on the Three Rivers Community College Raiders in a key Region XVI matchup. SFCC (12-11, 2-3 in Region XVI) fell by a score of 88-75.
SFCC freshman guard Kenny Chery knocked down a hanging jump shot to open the scoring in the contest. The Raiders tied the game on the next possession, scoring off of an offensive rebound and put back. Three Rivers made a run to take a 19-15 advantage courtesy of another offensive rebound and basket with under 10 minutes remaining in the half. The Raiders pushed their advantage to 37-23 at halftime.
The Raiders extended the lead to 57-33 in the second half. SFCC cut the deficit to 71-59 with a lob pass from sophomore guard Alfonzo Houston to freshman forward Ayo Ojo with under four minutes remaining. Three Rivers made the plays down the stretch to get the win.
Sophomore guard Alfonzo Houston led SFCC in scoring with 21 points and Chery contributed 19 points. Ojo added 17 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Houston dished out a team-high five assists and Ojo registered a team-high three blocked shots. Sophomore forward Michael Bradley led the team in steals with four.
SFCC will travel to West Plains Feb. 14 to take on the Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzlies. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
