The Roadrunners (9-6) defeated the Fort Scott Community College Greyhounds 76-65 Dec. 10 in Fort Scott, Kan. The win was the third of the semester for SFCC over Fort Scott.

SFCC sophomore guard Fred Wilson scored a layup to make the score 24-13 in the first half. SFCC stretched the lead to 38-25 at halftime. The Roadrunners pushed the advantage to 19 points, at 65-46 in the second half, the biggest lead by either team in the contest.

The Greyhounds trimmed the lead to nine with 50 seconds remaining in the game. The Roadrunners made just enough plays to secure the victory. The win is the seventh in a row for SFCC.

Kenny Chery led three Roadrunners in double figures with 21 points and registered a team-high four steals in the game. Sophomore guard Alfonzo Houston contributed 17 points and dished out a team-high five assists. Wilson added 11 points. Freshman guard D'Angelo Tucker pulled down a team-high six rebounds in the game. Freshman forward Ayo Ojo led the team with three blocked shots.

“The first half of the season had its ups and downs,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “At times we competed at a high level against some good teams and we’ve seen improvement; hopefully we can build on that. We are ready for Region XVI play.”

The Roadrunners will return to action Jan. 7 when they take on Penn Valley Community College in Kansas City. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
