Roadrunners Even Record with Win
The Roadrunners played their final home game of the semester Nov. 29, defeating the Fort Scott Community College Greyhounds from Fort Scott, Kan., 73-40.
Sophomore guard Fred Wilson converted a steal and layup into a three-point play after making a free throw and giving SFCC a 5-2 lead with just under 17 minutes remaining in the first half. SFCC stretched the lead to 20-9 with a layup from sophomore forward Michael Bradley off a pass from sophomore wing Antonin Galaya.
SFCC (6-6) took a 41-21 lead into halftime. The Roadrunners held Fort Scott to 19 points in the second half to secure the victory.
“We were strong defensively,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “We gave up one offensive rebound in the second half. Ayo Ojo gave us the presence inside with five blocks and five rebounds. Wilson played well. Galaya shot the ball well from the outside. Bradley gave us an inside presence as well.”
Galaya led the Roadrunners in scoring with 15 points. He made five three-point shots in the game on only eight attempts. Wilson contributed 12 points in the contest. Sophomore guard Alfonzo Houston and freshman forward Ojo added nine points each. Freshman guard Kenny Chery pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Houston dished out a team-high four assists in the game. Ojo blocked a team-high five shots. Freshman guard Montrell Watts, Chery and Houston tied for the team lead in steals with two each.
SFCC will play in the Hutchinson Classic Dec.2-3 in Hutchinson, Kan. The Roadrunners will take on the host and nationally ranked Hutchinson Community College on Friday and Quakerdale Promise Academy on Saturday.
“Hutchinson is ranked number eight in the country and is undefeated,” said Thomas. “They have a strong, winning tradition, and the game will be on their home floor. Hopefully, our team will get out there and enjoy playing.”
