The Lady Roadrunners Defeat North Arkansas College

The 14th ranked Lady Roadrunners survived a battle with the North Arkansas Lady Pioneers from Harrison, Ark., Nov. 15 at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center. SFCC (4-0) made just enough plays to emerge with a 79-70 victory.

The Lady Pioneers opened the game with five straight points. SFCC sophomore guard Alexas Brown made the score 8-7 with a layup off a pass from freshman guard Voneisha Harris. A jump shot from freshman guard Jermisha Watson gave the Lady Roadrunners a 36-31 halftime advantage.

SFCC sophomore guard Ariel Easton hit a three-point shot to extend the lead to 54-48 with about 11 minutes remaining. SFCC quickly stretched the lead to 56-48, but the Lady Pioneers trimmed the lead to three points at 62-59 with just under six minutes remaining.

After a timeout, SFCC freshman guard Brittany Silas buried a three-point shot to make the score 65-59. She hit another big three-point shot to make the lead 68-61 with four minutes and 31 seconds left on the clock. SFCC made the plays down the stretch to secure the win.

“We didn’t play very well,” said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. “The nice thing was, it was a win. We have to work to get better.”

Silas led three Lady Roadrunners in double figures with 25 points. Brown contributed 12 points and Easton added 11 points. Sophomore forward/center Cheyenne Williams pulled down a team-high eight rebounds in the game. She also led the team in blocked shots with two. Freshman guard Ryneka Church dished out a team-high four assists. Brown and Harris tied for the team lead in steals with five each.
