Lady Roadrunners Win Season Opener
The 14th-ranked Lady Roadrunners opened their portion of the McDonald’s Classic Nov. 4 with a 75-48 victory over Vincennes University in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center. SFCC used a fast start and its pressure defense to secure the victory.
Sophomore forward/center Cheyenne Williams opened the game with four points. Sophomore guard Ariel Easton splashed home a three-point shot to give SFCC a 7-0 lead. SFCC led 46-30 at halftime and held Vincennes to 18 points in the second half en route to victory.
“I was concerned,” said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. “When you have a young team like we do, you never know what to expect. Tonight we came out and hit some good shots early. Our pressure defense was strong and we made them run.”
Easton led the team in scoring with 17 points. Freshman guard/forward Cassandra Moore contributed 15 points. Freshman guard Brittany Silas added 13 points. Sophomore forward Jallisa Lewis pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds in the contest. Freshman guard Ryneka Church dished out a team-high five assists. Sophomore guard Alexas Brown added four assists in the game. Easton and Brown each contributed three steals.
