Roadrunners Split at Columbia College
The Roadrunners had their first scrimmage of the season against another team Oct. 13 when they took on Columbia College in Columbia. The Roadrunners won the first half by a score of 41-39. The scoreboard was cleared and Columbia College took the second half 55-50.
“We didn’t play very well defensively,“ said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “We have a lot of work to do on getting guys to jump to the basketball. We have to get better at rebounding and blocking out. Columbia College really hurt us on the offensive boards. We gave up 15 offensive rebounds.”
Thomas also sees room for improvement on the offensive end. He wants to see more attention to detail from his team.
“We just didn’t run our offense right,” said Thomas. “Guys were trying to score off the first penetration and not really letting the offense work. A lot of mistakes we made are correctable, but we have to get players more focused and listening to details so we can get better.”
Freshman guard Kenny Chery led the team in scoring with 21 points. He also pulled down a team-leading seven rebounds and seven assists in the game. Sophomore guard Fred Wilson contributed 15 points. Sophomore guard Alfonzo Houston and freshman guard D'Angelo Tucker added 14 points each. Sophomore forward Michael Bradley pitched in with 13 points in the contest.
