Roadrunners sign 2 more players
The Roadrunners have signed two more student athletes for the 2011-2012 school year.
Charles Beard, a 6’ 7” center, comes to SFCC from El Camino High School in Oceanside, Calif. Beard played for Head Coach Ray Johnson, averaging 14 points and 10 rebounds per game. He also averaged two blocks per contest as a senior, and earned second-team all-league honors that year.
“He is very skilled,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “He can shoot the ball, has some nice post moves and plays hard.”
Byron Watts, a 5’ 10” guard from Lee High School in Jacksonville, Fla., helped lead his team to a 25-5 record his senior year. The Generals, under the leadership of Head Coach Stephen Jenkins, had an 8-0 record in conference play and won a Class 5A district championship.
Watts averaged 13.5 points and 5.3 assists per game. He also had 4.7 steals and three rebounds per contest. He was named the team’s defensive player of the year both his junior and senior years.
“He is a really quick point guard and a good on-the-ball defender,” said Thomas. “He’s been out of high school for a year; he has to get in shape, so that’s what we’ll help him do.”
