Davis Earns All-American Honors, Signs with Long Island University
Sophomore forward Ebony Davis continues to earn accolades for her sophomore season. Davis helped lead the Lady Roadrunners to the NJCAA National Tournament during her sophomore campaign. Davis earned first-team All-American honors for her efforts this season. Davis is the first Lady Roadrunner to earn first-team All-American honors during the tenure of Kevin Bucher as a head coach or an assistant coach at SFCC. She has decided to continue her academic and athletic career at Division I Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York.
“I like the program, and I got along well with the team,” said Davis. “New York is an exciting place… I like the coaches, it’s a winning program and the facilities are nice.”
Davis scored 14.3 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per contest. She finished 12th in the nation in blocks per game with 2.4. The 8.8 rebounds per contest were good enough for 42nd in the country and first in the region. Davis amassed 12 double-doubles, four against nationally ranked competition. She also shot 75 percent from the free-throw line. Those numbers earned her All –Region XVI first team honors.
“It’s a great compliment for Ebony, who came here for one year and worked hard to establish herself as one of the Region’s best players,” said Bucher. “She’s worked to become a first-team All-American… We’ve had quite a few All-Americans in the past several years, but we haven’t had a first-team All-American. It says a lot about what she brought to the team this year.”
Coach Bucher is looking forward to following Davis’ progress as she continues her career at the next level. He sees nothing but good things in her future.
“We are very excited,” said Bucher. “I know a lot of our boosters and myself are very excited about her going to Long Isiand… We will be following her progress and we wish her the very best of luck.”
