Roadrunners Advance to Region XVI Championship Game
The Roadrunners (24-6) defeated the Moberly Area Community College Greyhounds 79-69 March 4 in a Region XVI semifinal game in Hillsboro. It was the third time this season SFCC emerged victorious over Moberly.
“Our guys came out and played hard,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “I wouldn’t say we rebounded the ball great; we gave up a lot of offensive rebounds.”
SFCC took a 12-point lead at 26-14 in the first half. Moberly trimmed the SFCC advantage to 37-29 at halftime.
“Our players did a good job stepping up and making free throws, unlike the second time we played them,” said Thomas.
The Greyhounds took a one-point lead in the second half. SFCC made the plays down the stretch to secure the win and advance to the Region XVI championship game against the Missouri State University-West Plains Grizzlies.
Sophomore center Matt Webb led the Roadrunners with 19 points. Sophomore guard Torres Roundtree contributed 14 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Sophomore guard Jerel Partlow added 13 points. Sophomore forward Travis Jordan pitched in with 11 points and freshman guard Alfonzo Houston added 10 points and a team-leading four assists.
