Lady Roadrunners Nip Three Rivers

The fourth-ranked Lady Roadrunners battled from behind Feb. 5 to defeat the Three Rivers Community College Lady Raiders 71-68 in Poplar Bluff. A game-winning shot from freshman guard Alexas Brown clinched the win.
SFCC (21-2, 7-0 in Region XVI) got out of the gate slowly. Three Rivers took a 28-22 lead with eight minutes remaining in the first half. The Lady Raiders stretched the advantage to 45-34 at halftime.
“We talked about a lot of things at halftime,” said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. “We lost our heads and had to refocus.”
SFCC began to chip away at the Three Rivers’ lead. The Lady Roadrunners finally got over the hump with about 30 seconds remaining in the game. Sophomore guard Arriana Walker splashed home a three-point shot to cut the deficit to one point at 68-67.
“The Lady Raiders ball handler just kept backing right into the corner,” said Bucher. “I thought Three Rivers would struggle to get that pass out, which they did, passing the ball right underneath our basket. All of the sudden I saw Alexas had it; the ball went up, she made the basket and gave us our first lead of the game.”
Brown was fouled on the play. She went to the free-throw line and converted the three-point play. Sophomore forward Ebony Davis was fouled on the next possession, and made one of two free throws to seal the win.
Sophomore guard/forward Dahlia Booker led three Lady Roadrunners in double figures with 13 points. Davis contributed 12 points. Walker added 11 points and a team-leading five assists and five steals for the game. Freshman guard Tyler Anderson grabbed a team-leading eight rebounds in the contest.
The Lady Roadrunners will be back on their home court at 5:30 p.m. Feb 9 when the North Arkansas Lady Pioneers come to town for the annual Pink Zone activities.
