Roadrunners Defeat Carl Albert
The State Fair Community College Roadrunners emerged with a 68-58 win over the Carl Albert State College Vikings Jan. 7 in the opening round of the West Plains Classic.
“I thought our energy level just wasn't very high,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “I was disappointed in our effort on Friday night. We just didn't play at a very high level. We were sloppy with the ball, had some careless turnovers … we were able to secure the victory at the end, but I wasn't happy with our performance overall.”
SFCC (13-3) struggled out of the gate. The Roadrunners grabbed a 17-15 lead with eight minutes and 42 seconds remaining in the first half. Carl Albert responded with a run of its own. SFCC hit the offensive glass to take a 33-29 lead into halftime.
Sophomore Travis Jordan knocked down a three-point shot to extend the SFCC lead to 41-32 with 16 minutes and 38 seconds remaining in the game. The Vikings cut the deficit to three with just under six minutes left in the game. The Roadrunners hung on to close out a 68-58 victory.
Jordan led the Roadrunners in scoring with 14 points. Sophomore guard Torres Roundtree added 10 points. Sophomore center Matt Webb pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
“Travis (Jordan) did a good job of making shots for us,” said Thomas. “It was probably his best shooting performance of the year. He ended up 5-10 from the field. I thought he was one of the few guys who did play well.”
