Lady Roadrunners Dominate Lady Statesmen
The 15th-ranked State Fair Community College Lady Roadrunners used a huge second-half run to defeat Lincoln Trail College from Robinson, Ill., 91-48 Dec. 3 in the Three Rivers Classic.
SFCC (11-2) used a familiar blueprint to secure the victory. The Lady Roadrunners took a 42-32 lead at halftime. Their defense forced 15 turnovers in the half. SFCC opened the half on a 13-3 run in a little under three minutes to break the game open. The Lady Roadrunners forced five Lincoln Trail turnovers in about four minutes to begin the second half.
“That was one area Coach (Bucher) was covering at halftime,” said Lady Roadrunners Assistant Coach Buck Scheel. "We wanted to make sure they were working for every basket, and we weren’t handing it to them.”
The Lady Roadrunners held the Lady Statesmen to just 16 second-half points. SFCC also took care of business on the offensive end. Every Lady Roadrunner who played in the game got in the scoring column.
Sophomore Ciara Leak led four Lady Roadrunners in double figures with 21 points. Sophomore Hattie Harris contributed 11 points and sophomore Ebony Davis added 10 points. Leak also pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Sophomore Dahlia Booker, freshman TyJae' Chenevert and Harris grabbed five rebounds each.
Leak, sophomore Jallisa Lewis and freshman Alexas Brown recorded a team-leading three assists each. Freshman Mariah Duke and sophomore Arriana Walker recorded a team-leading three steals each.
