Roadrunners Defeat Iowa Western
The State Fair Community College Roadrunners (9-1) defeated the Iowa Western Community College Reivers 60-55 Nov. 30 in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
“I thought our guys played pretty hard last night,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “I was very pleased with the effort. I thought we were able to get stops on the defensive end. It's always good to be able to get a win when you don't shoot the ball well.”
SFCC shot 39 percent from the field in the first half. Even with the offensive struggles, the Roadrunners took a 26-22 lead into halftime. The Roadrunners relied on their defense to secure the victory.
“We ran a lot of 3-2 zone defense in this game,” said Thomas. “We showed some improvement in our man defense. We were able to keep guys in front of us, help, and secure the rebounds.”
Sophomore Torres Roundtree registered yet another double double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, leading the team in both categories. Sophomore Jerel Partlow contributed 14 points. Sophomore Erik Hunter came off the bench to add 11. Sophomore Dominique Newton dished out a team-leading three assists.
SFCC will travel to Harrisburg, Ill., Dec. 4 to take on Southeastern Illinois College at 7:30 p.m.
