Roadrunners Earn Split at Moberly Classic
The State Fair Community College Roadrunners bounced back from their first defeat of the year with an 85-64 win over The Quakerdale Promise Academy Eagles Nov. 27 at the Moberly Classic. SFCC (8-1) jumped out to an early 16-11 lead and never looked back.
“The first half against Quakerdale Prep was just okay,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “I thought in the second half we turned up the intensity a little bit and were able to get stops.”
The Roadrunners shot a scorching 50 percent from the field in the first half. They cooled off a bit in the second half and finished the game shooting 43 percent. Thomas was pleased with the play of several individuals.
“Torres (Roundtree) had another good game,” said Thomas. “I thought he scored it well. I thought Carvel (Claggett) played well. He gave us a good spark with his energy and effort. Matt Webb ended up going for 14 points and 13 rebounds. I thought that was really good. The guy he was going against is a really good player.”
Roundtree led the offensive attack for SFCC with 28 points and seven rebounds. He dished out a team-leading five assists for the game. Jerel Partlow contributed 12 points and nine rebounds. Travis Jordan added a team-high three steals.
