Roadrunners Drop First Game
The State Fair Community College Roadrunners saw their undefeated start come to an end Nov. 26 when they dropped an 81-62 decision to the 10th-ranked team in the nation, Howard County College, at the Moberly Classic.
Howard jumped out to a 17-7 lead to begin the game. The Roadrunners (7-1) cut the deficit to four with a pair of three-point shots from sophomore Jerel Partlow.
“I thought our guys were a little bit shell shocked by how physical they were,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “In the second half we did a better job of competing.”
Howard increased the lead to 27-17 with less than eight minutes to go in the half. A three-point shot by sophomore Travis Jordan cut the lead to five with less than five minutes to go.
Howard closed the half on a 6-2 run to stretch the advantage to 39-26. The Roadrunners made a change to full court pressure defense, but could never get the deficit under five points.
Sophomore Torres Roundtree registered a double double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. He also dished out a team-leading five assists. Partlow contributed 19 points and five rebounds.
