Defense Leads Roadrunners to Victory
The State Fair Community College Roadrunners used a solid team effort Nov. 9 to defeat the Fort Scott Community College Greyhounds 60-43 at Fort Scott, Kan.
“I thought it was a great team effort,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “I feel like our team is taking strides in the right direction.”
SFCC used a zone defense for most of the game. The Roadrunners held Fort Scott to one for 22 from behind the three-point line for the game.
“Our guys did what we told them to do and forced them to take outside shots,” said Thomas. “Fortunately, they kept missing and we were able to build a pretty comfortable lead.”
The Roadrunners started the game well on offense. Sophomore Torres Roundtree came off the bench and provided a spark in his first game as a Roadrunner. He recorded a double double, leading the team with 15 points and 10 rebounds. He also led the team with four assists.
“His energy level was really good,” said Thomas. “He gave us a lot of production off the bench. He gave us some inside baskets, and was also able to beat some guys off the bounce and score a little bit in transition.”
Freshman Alfonzo Houston contributed 11 points. Sophomore Thomas Orr added nine on three of four from beyond the three-point line. Sophomore Matt Webb added eight points.
The Roadrunners will return to action at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16 when they travel to North Arkansas College in Harrison, Ark.
