The Missouri Valley Vikings defeated the State Fair Community College Roadrunners 81-75 Oct. 27 in the annual Highway 65 Shootout in Marshall, Mo.
The Roadrunners jumped out to a 9-0 lead to begin the game. Missouri Valley grabbed a 35-30 lead at halftime. The Vikings stretched the lead to 10 in the second half. SFCC took the lead with about four minutes left in the game, but couldn’t keep it.
"We couldn't get stops, especially big ones, when we needed to," said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas.
Sophomore Jerel Partlow led the Roadrunners with 20 points and knocked down six three-point shots. As a team, the Roadrunners shot 15-31 from beyond the arc. Sophomore Dominique Newton contributed 14 points and tied for the team lead in assists with five. Sophomore Thomas Orr added 11 points. Sophomore Torres Roundtree pulled down a team-leading five rebounds and tied for the team lead in assists with five.
The Roadrunners open their season Friday at home in the McDonald's Classic, when SFCC will take on Missouri Valley College junior varsity. The next night SFCC will play Southeastern Illinois. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. both nights.
