Roadrunners Go Undefeated in Warrensburg
The State Fair Roadrunners got their preseason schedule off on the right foot Sunday, October 17 with three victories in the Heartland Juco Jamboree. State Fair defeated Des Moines Area Community College, Kansas City Kansas Community College and McCook Community College at the event.
State Fair got out to a 21-15 lead into halftime against Des Moines Area in the first game, and held off a second-half charge to claim the victory 42-39. Sophomores Jerel Partlow and Torres Roundtree led the offensive attack for the Roadrunners with 10 points each. Sophomore Thomas Orr added six points.
Partlow and sophomore Matt Webb pulled down a team-leading four rebounds each. Roundtree dished out a team-leading three assists for the game.
State Fair took on Kansas City Kansas in their second game. The Roadrunners took a three point lead into halftime. State Fair would stretch the lead in the second half to secure a 41-32 victory.
Freshman Alfonzo Houston led a balanced offensive attack for State Fair with nine points. Webb contributed eight. Partlow pitched in with seven points. Sophomore Dominique Newton added six. Webb pulled down team leading 7 rebounds. Partlow dished out a team-leading three assists.
The Roadrunners went to halftime of their third and final game against McCook tied at 27. State Fair would grab the lead in the second half and get the victory 56-52.
Roundtree led State Fair with 12 points. He also contributed three rebounds and two assists. Webb contributed 10 points and a team-leading six rebounds. Sophomore Erik Hunter pitched in with nine points.
“Offensively we need to get better at executing in the half court. In some of our sets that we run defensively, our positioning isn’t very good right now,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas.
The Roadrunners will return to the floor on Wednesday, October 20th at Columbia College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
