Lady Roadrunners Go 3-0 in Warrensburg
The State Fair Lady Roadrunners got their preseason schedule off to a solid start with three victories on Sunday, October 10 at the Heartland Juco Jamboree in Warrensburg, Missouri. State Fair defeated Highland Community College, Brown Mackie College, and Southeastern Community College.
The Lady Roadrunners took on Highland Community College in the first game. State Fair built a 20 point lead going into halftime and never looked back, winning the game 42-21.
"I thought our defense in this game was really good. We had good pressure on the ball and good first pass defense… I thought overall we had a very good game," said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher.
State Fair took on Brown Mackie College in their second game of the day. State Fair would again jump out to a 20 point lead in the first half and secure the win.
"Our players played about three to four minutes and then we rotated a new group in to the game," said Bucher.
State Fair played Southeastern Community College in the third and final game of the Jamboree. They found themselves down by one point at halftime, but they pulled away in the second half to notch victory
"Southeastern played a zone defense… It was good to see a team play a zone, because we needed to go against that," said Bucher.
Bucher was pleased with his team’s start. However, he knows there’s still a lot of work to be done.
"We want to sure up our offense. Some of our players went to the wrong side when running plays… We want to do a better job of rebounding. I really want us to get the ball out. When we ran, a lot of times we weren’t spread, which I think would have gotten us a lot more buckets in transition," said Bucher.
The Lady Roadrunners will travel to Belleville, Illinois to participate in the Belleville JuCo Jamboree on Sunday October, 17th. State Fair will take on Wabash Valley College, Olney Central College, and Lincoln Trail College.
"This team is hungry and wants to play against good competition. I'm anxious to see us play against some better teams, hopefully this weekend," said Bucher.
