Roadrunners Hire Assistant Coach

Roadrunner Head Coach Kevin Thomas has announced the hiring of new assistant coach Josh Sash. Sash brings an impressive resume filled with experience at the Division I, NAIA and Junior College levels. Sash spent last season as an assistant coach at Temple College in Texas.
"He‘s a guy that's very organized. He comes highly recommended, from a guy whose opinion I really trust.... He's a hard worker, who’s really passionate and enthusiastic about the game…. I think eventually he'd like to be a head coach somewhere…I think this is a great place for him to kind of get his foot in the door and work toward those goals," said Thomas.
Sash began his coaching career as an undergraduate student assistant at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa. While at William Penn, he served as student assistant for four years for the varsity, and head coach of the junior varsity for two years. He helped guide William Penn to a school record 25 wins in 2006-2007, including a conference regular-season title and a conference tournament championship, and an NAIA national tournament appearance. Sash finished his bachelor's degree in physical education and coaching in December 2006.
During that time, Sash spent a summer working with Martin Brothers Select, an AAU team from Iowa. Sash served as a graduate assistant at Drake University under head coach Keno Davis in 2007-2008. During that season, the Bulldogs finished 28-5. They won the Missouri Valley Conference regular season and tournament championships. Drake earned the fifth seed in the NCAA West Regional.
Sash followed Coach Davis to Providence College, where he served as the video coordinator. Providence finished the season 19-14, which was good for an 8th place finish in the Big East Conference. The Friars received a birth in the NIT that season.
.           "I think State Fair has a lot to offer. They have great facilities. I saw an opportunity to come here and work for Coach Thomas… He is energetic and excited about basketball and about kids," said Sash.
Sash’s duties will include recruiting and on the floor coaching. He will also be involved with academic monitoring.
