During Pink Zone night, the Lady Roadrunners will wear pink T-shirts during warm up before their game against the North Arkansas College Lady Pioneers. The men's and women's teams will wear pink shoelaces to support breast cancer awareness. The women play at 5:30 p.m. and the men play at 7:30 p.m.
People who attend the game wearing pink can get in free to the games. The Spirit Squad will also wear pink during their halftime performance of the men’s game. Gate proceeds and 50/50 raffle proceeds will be donated to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund to help fight cancer.
The late Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach, was a past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), and a galvanizing voice for the Association. Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on Jan. 24, 2009, after facing her third bout with the disease. In her 38 years as a head coach at the college-level, Yow was one of only six Division I head women's basketball mentors to achieve 700 career victories. Yow was also the head coach of the 1988 US Olympic Team that won the gold medal in Seoul. (http://www.wbca.org/kayyowwbcacancerfund.asp)
