Opponent: Stone Laser Imaging Classic (SFCC vs. Wabash)
W 67-56 |
The Lady Roadrunners closed out their portion of the Stone Laser Imaging Classic Nov. 17 with a 67-56 victory over the Wabash Valley College Lady Warriors from Mt. Carmel, Ill., in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center. SFCC (5-2) jumped out to an early 19-4 lead.
“We jumped on them early in the game,” said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. “Our press defense stifled them for a little bit.”
Wabash Valley went to a zone defense to change the tempo of the game. SFCC took a 42-28 lead into halftime. The Lady Warriors came back to take the lead in the second half, but SFCC made enough plays down the stretch to secure the victory.
“We struggled offensively for about eight to 12 minutes,” said Bucher. “We hit a shot about the six-minute mark that really lifted us. I’m pleased that we won two tough games this weekend.”
SFCC had three players in double-figure scoring. Freshman guard Antoinette Taylor scored 16 points, freshman guard Apiphany Woods contributed 11 points and freshman guard/forward Julia Torres added 10 points. Torres and freshman forward Asia Mosley tied for the team lead in rebounds with eight apiece. Freshman guard Adella Randle-EL, Taylor and Torres each registered a team-high two steals in the contest.
Sophomore guard/forward Kaci Cason and Taylor were both named to the All-Classic team. Taylor also earned Most Valuable Player honors for the classic.
