Lady Roadrunners Defeat Kirkwood

The Lady Roadrunners opened their portion of the Stone Laser Imaging Classic Nov. 16 with a come-from-behind victory over the Kirkwood Community College Eagles from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.
SFCC (4-2) struggled offensively in the first half, as Kirkwood took a 31-15 lead. The Lady Roadrunners began their comeback by cutting the Eagles’ 16-point advantage to 10 by halftime. SFCC trailed 35-25 at halftime.
“The last three minutes of the first half really set the stage for the comeback,” said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. “We finally got some momentum going into halftime.”
SFCC turned up its defensive pressure, holding Kirkwood to only 15 points in the second half. The Lady Roadrunners also got things going on the other end of the floor, scoring 42 points in the second half to secure the victory.
Freshman guard Antoinette Taylor led SFCC in scoring with 19 points, including a pair of three-point baskets, which helped her team extend its lead in the second half. Sophomore guard/forward Kaci Cason contributed 15 points, 11 of which came in the first half to keep the Lady Roadrunners within striking distance. Freshman forward Asia Mosley pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and Cason and freshman guard/forward Julia Torres pulled down five rebounds apiece. Sophomore guard Mia Wesley dished out a team-high three assists in the contest. Taylor and freshman guard Adella Randle-EL tied for the team lead in steals with four each.
