The Lady Roadrunners lost their final game at the 2010 Collegiate Girls Basketball Report Classic Saturday night when they dropped a hard-fought 83-71 decision to the host Chipola College Lady Indians in Marianna, Fla.
The Lady Roadrunners jumped out to a 7-0 lead to open the game. They maintained the lead at 20-16 with just under 10 minutes to go in the first half.
“I thought we played much better than we did the night before,” said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. “I thought we were a lot more aggressive, handled the ball a lot better, and shot the ball better. We got some easy buckets and our defense was a whole lot better. I thought we competed with them and got some easy baskets in transition, and that opened up some shots from the outside.”
The Lady Indians grabbed a 32-25 lead with under six minutes left in the half. Chipola lengthened the lead to 11 at the half with a score of 45-34. SFCC refused to quit, cutting the deficit to 10 with under 11 minutes remaining in the game. The Lady Indians made plays down the stretch to secure the victory.
“It seemed like when we would make a run, there was a foul called,” said Bucher. “Every time we tried to get the momentum to swing back, it seemed like we just came up with a foul and just weren't able to get it done.”
Sophomore Ciara Leak led SFCC in scoring with 20 points. Sophomore Tatianna Washington contributed 11 points. Sophomore Ebony Davis added 10 points. Davis led the team in rebounds with five. Sophomore Arriana Walker pulled down four rebounds on the game.
SFCC (3-2) will take on North Arkansas College in Harrison, Ark., at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16.
