Recap:

Roadrunners turn up the intensity, shut down Fort Scott

The State Fair Community College Roadrunners put together their best effort of the season Dec. 7 when they defeated the Fort Scott Community College Greyhounds 87-40 at the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center.

SFCC (10-2) jumped out to a 24-13 lead with nine minutes and six seconds remaining until halftime. The Roadrunners used a trapping full-court pressure to force Fort Scott into numerous first-half turnovers, while creating opportunities in transition on the offensive end.

“That is one of the most complete games we've played,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “I felt like for 40 minutes, we had guys who were pressuring the ball and getting up and guarding, especially when we went man to man. We dictated to them on the defensive end. They couldn't just run what they wanted.”

The Roadrunners extended their advantage to 43-22 at the half. SFCC continued to apply pressure in the second half, forcing the Greyhounds into 33 turnovers for the game. The SFCC defense held the Greyhounds to 18 second-half points to secure the victory.

Sophomore Erik Hunter made the play that typified the defensive effort for the Roadrunners. Hunter came from the other side of the floor to block an easy lay-up attempt for Fort Scott.

Sophomore Matt Webb led the Roadrunners with 19 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Alfonzo Houston contributed 18 points. Hunter pitched in with 14 points. Sophomore Filip Toric added 13 points. Sophomore Jerel Partlow led the team with five assists and four steals for the game.
