The State Fair Community College Roadrunners (5-0) opened their portion of the SFCC Classic in style Friday night, Nov. 19, with a 111-78 victory over the Forest Park Highlanders. This was the first time this season the Roadrunners scored 100 points in a game.
SFCC jumped out to a 23-17 lead with 11 minutes and 32 seconds left in the first half. The Roadrunners grabbed a 61-34 lead at halftime. Both teams wanted to get up and down the floor during game.
“I thought we did a good job handling the full-court pressure, especially late in the first half,” said Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Thomas. “Against a team like that, to only have 11 turnovers is pretty good. We had 23 assists, which I thought was awesome tonight.”
SFCC stretched out the lead in the second half to secure the victory. Four Roadrunners scored in double figures for the game. Sophomores Matt Webb, Jerel Partlow and Torres Roundtree registered 18 points each. Webb also contributed 10 rebounds. Freshman Alfonzo Houston added 16 points and five assists. Sophomore Titus Mims pitched in with 15 points and two blocked shots. Partlow added five assists.
“On the season, we have about six guys averaging double figures,” said Thomas. "I think it continued tonight. We had a lot of people get into the action tonight.”
SFCC will take on Allen County Community College on Saturday, Nov. 20.
