Recap:

Lady Roadrunners Make History

The ninth-ranked Lady Roadrunners shook off an 11-day layoff from game competition to defeat the Chattanooga State Community College Lady Tigers 66-50 in the opening round of the NJCAA national tournament March 16 at the Bicentennial Center in Salina, Kan. The national tournament victory was the first in the history of the SFCC women’s basketball program.

The Lady Roadrunners (29-4) shot a cool 27.6 percent from the field in the first half and found themselves trailing 23-22 at halftime.

“When you have that much time off between games, it's rough,” said Lady Roadrunners Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "We wanted to make sure we attacked at every opportunity, and we attacked the glass, especially in the second half."

Sophomore guard Hattie Harris knocked down a big three-point shot to open the second half, giving the Lady Roadrunners a lead they never relinquished. SFCC pushed the lead to 11 with a three-point shot from sophomore guard Maci Wisdom.

SFCC made plays down the stretch to secure the win. The Lady Roadrunners will take on North Idaho College March 17 in round two of the tournament.

Sophomore forward Ebony Davis led the offensive attack with 19 points and seven rebounds. Harris added 18 points.

Sophomore guard/forward Dahlia Booker pulled down a team-leading eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Arriana Walker dished out a team-leading three assists. Booker led the team with five steals. Walker and freshman guard Alexas Brown added four steals each. Davis recorded three blocked shots.

“I'm pleased for our players,” said Bucher. “They've worked very hard to get here. I wish Ciara Leak could have been here; this is for her as well, because she helped us get to this point.”
