Opponent: Hwy 65 Shoot-Out
The State Fair Community College Lady Roadrunners were impressive in the Highway 65 Shoot-out scrimmage in front of the home fans on Oct. 28. SFCC defeated the Missouri Valley College varsity 79 to 46.
Assistant Coach Kevin Bucher was pleased with the team's effort.
"It was a great start," Bucher said.
Freshman Arriana Walker led the team in scoring with 16 points. She added eight rebounds, five steals and four assists. Freshman Dahlia Booker and sophomore Brittany Young added 11 points apiece. Freshman Tatianna Washington contributed nine points, six rebounds and two steals. Freshman Jaleisha Barrett added eight points and freshman Maci Wisdom added seven.
According to Bucher, effort and unselfishness were two reasons for the Lady Roadrunners’ win over junior and senior players on the Missouri Valley team. There were several times Lady Roadrunner players passed up a shot for a better shot for a teammate.
“It’s here (the season). I know the team is excited and the coaches are too,” said Bucher.
Coach Bucher also thanked the Student Government Association for hosting the tailgate before the scrimmage and for encouraging all student organizations to come to the game.
The Lady Roadrunners will open their regular season at 5 p.m. Nov. 3 at Missouri Valley College in Marshall against the four-year college’s junior varsity team. At 5:30 p.m. Nov. 6 and 7, the Lady Roadrunners will play in the annual McDonald’s Classic in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the Sedalia campus.
