L 71-56 |
The State Fair Roadrunners dropped a 71-56 Homecoming decision to the Mineral Area Cardinals on Feb. 27. State Fair led at halftime 34-29 courtesy of a Travis Jordan three-point shot at the buzzer to give the Roadrunners a five-point lead.
The second half, however, was a much different story. Mineral Area outscored the Roadrunners 42-22 to claim the victory.
"In the first half, we did some good things,” commented Head Coach Dale Ribble. “I thought defensively we played hard . . . I thought we were in decent shape going into halftime, and then in the second half we just didn't play very well.”
State Fair (20-11, 4-4 in Region 16) was led in scoring by freshman Dominique Newton with 12 points. Sophomore All-Region Team member Justyn Watkins contributed 11 points. Sophomore Dominic Williams added 10 points and a team-leading seven assists. Watkins, Williams and sophomore George Williams tied for the team lead with six rebounds each.
The Roadrunners will open Region 16 Tournament play as the No. 3 seed on Friday, March 5, at Hillsboro, Missouri, against the No. 2 Three Rivers. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
