L 72-68 |
The State Fair Roadrunners stepped out of Region 16 play on Feb. 2 to take on Iowa Western Community College. As the final horn sounded, the Roadrunners lost to the Reivers 72-68.
At the half, Iowa Western led 40-32 and would extend the lead to 14 points in the second half. However, the Roadrunners refused to quit, and they fought back to tie the game but couldn't quite get over the hump.
State Fair (16-6, 2-2 in Region 16) had three players in double figures for the game. Sophomore Justyn Watkins led the team in scoring with 20 points. Sophomores Clifton Fleming contributed 11, and Brandon Scaife added 10 points and a team-leading seven rebounds for the game. Sophomore Dominic Williams dished out to team-leading six assists.
"I thought Brandon gave us some really good minutes,” said Head Coach Dale Ribble. “He has been hurt a little bit, so it was nice to see him come back and play as well as he played."
State Fair will hit the road on Feb. 6 to take on the nationally ranked Three Rivers Community College Raiders.
"It should be a big challenge for us,” said Ribble. “Hopefully, one our guys will be excited about."
