Opponent: Three Rivers Community College
W 69-65 |
The SFCC Roadrunners (14-5) opened their Region 16 schedule with a bang on Jan. 16 by upsetting the 21st ranked Three Rivers Community College Raiders 69-65.
This game was a defensive battle from beginning to end. Scoring in the opening minutes of the game was slow for both teams, but State Fair managed a 33-29 lead at the midpoint of the match. With intense effort, the Roadrunners stretched the lead to 54-46 with six minutes, 29 seconds left on the game. The Raiders cut the deficit to six with three minutes and 33 seconds left on the clock and eventually cut it four. Then State Fair got a big rebound from freshman Matthew Webb to seal the victory.
“I was very pleased with our team’s effort,” said Head Coach Dale Ribble. “All of our guys played extremely hard. I thought it was very difficult for both teams to score."
Sophomore Justyn Watkins hit big shots throughout the game finishing with a team-leading 25 points. Sophomore Clifton Fleming contributed 15 points, and freshman Filip Toric grabbed a team-leading eight rebounds. Sophomore Dominic Williams dished out a team-leading five assists for the game.
The Roadrunners, now tied for first in Region 16 play, do not have long to savor their big win over the Raiders. State Fair will play another tough Region 16 opponent when the Moberly Area Community College Greyhounds come to town on Jan. 20. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
