In the Dec. 5 second round of the Iowa Western Classic, the Roadrunners took on the host team Iowa Western Reivers in a back-and-forth game in which they lost 85-71.
Iowa Western took a 37-33 lead at halftime; however, the Roadrunners refused to quit. They tied the game at 58 midway through the second half. Nonetheless, the veteran Iowa Western club took advantage of some late miscues to establish the winning margin.
"I thought we did some positive things,” said Head Coach Dale Ribble. “I thought we shot the ball really well When they went zone, we shot the three extremely well."
The Roadrunners were led in scoring by sophomore George Williams with 16 points. Clifton Fleming added 14, and Dominic Williams added 10 points and a team-leading four assists. Freshman Matthew Webb also added 10 points and a team-leading eight rebounds.
The Roadrunners (8-5) will travel to St. Louis to participate in the Forest Park Classic on Dec. 11 and 12 in St. Louis. State Fair will take on Moraine Valley Community College from Chicago, Illinois on Friday and the host Forest Park on Saturday.
"Moraine Valley has a good ball club,” said Ribble. “I think they want to get the game going up-tempo, which is fine. We want to play that way when it's there. Forest Park will want to play fast. They are really quick at the guard positions," said Ribble.
