W 80-59 |
The Roadrunners smothered the William Jewell College JV 80-59 in the last home game before the end of the fall semester on Dec. 1. The Roadrunners jumped out to a 19-7 lead with just under 12 minutes to go in the first half.
"We wanted to try and attack them inside early in the game. I thought we did a good job getting the ball inside against their man defense," said Head Coach Dale Ribble.
William Jewell refused to go quietly. They cut the lead to 22-15 at about the eight-minute mark in the first half. However, State Fair (8-3) took control of the game, and by halftime, they had built a 40-24 lead.
Sophomore Justyn Watkins led three Roadrunners in double-figures with 18 points. Sophomore Brandon Scaife contributed 15 points on the night, and freshman Dominique Newton added 14.
State Fair will travel to Council Bluffs, Iowa, to participate in the Iowa Western Classic on Dec. 4 and 5. The Roadrunners will take on Iowa Lakes at 5 p.m. Dec. 4 and then play host school Iowa Western at 7 p.m. Dec. 5.
"We play Iowa Lakes who is nationally ranked in NJCAA Division II, and we play Iowa Western, who traditionally has a very good program. It will be a great challenge for us," says Ribble.
